DD Mau, #GiveMeMau Package by VANEATS.ca

VanEats latest package #GiveMeMau is a collaboration with one of my favourite banh mi places in the city – DD Mau. Not only does it share the same as initials as yours truly, but each delicious banh mi is made with BC’s local seafood and local meats. That combined with spices around the world means a quality and responsible banh mi that you can enjoy happily.

Please note that I was invited by VANEATS to try this package out!

The $9.50 package includes a sandwich – that’s half Grilled Lemongrass chicken and half Crispy Roasted Pork, also your choice of either an Avocado or Honeydew smoothie.

We started off with the Honeydew smoothie, which is delicious, refreshing, slightly sweet and perfect to go with the sandwiches.

I’m always pleasantly surprised when I remember how long these sandwiches are – they’re easily a foot long.

They may be narrower than your average banh mi but originally banh mi was made with the baguette (a skinnier loaf of bread) rather than most other places that offer doughy thicker bread.

I appreciate this style as there’s less bread and more filling. And if you don’t believe me, check out this picture!

And this picture. On the left is the lemon grass chicken and on the right, the crispy pork.

As you can see, there’s not too much bread, it’s the perfect ratio of meat, veggies and bread.

The Grilled Lemongrass Chicken which is made from grilled chicken thighs that are loaded with the delicious lemongrass taste is piled high with pickled carrots and daikon, cilantro, jalapenos and sweet chili aioli sauce. This is by far my favourite sandwich here at DD Mau – if I worked closer to Yaletown, it would probably be my go to every week.

The other half is the Crispy Roasted Pork. This one is piled in sauteed scallions, pickled carrots and daikon, cilantro, jalapenos and garlic aioli sauce. This is my first time having this sandwich and it was tender, full of flavour with the crispy bits sprinkled on top.

I also ordered The Classic ($7) to share with Brian, but we were both so stuffed by the end of the meal! I think one sandwich and a drink could feed two people and stuff one person for sure. They may look like skinny sandwiches but they pack a lot of punch! Its been over 7 hours and I haven’t been hungry yet (gasp)!

This package is such a good deal – usually the Crispy Pork is about $8 and the smoothie alone is $4.50 – so to have this package at $9.50 is a great saving. I’d definitely come back for this package – and luckily I have till the end of February to do so!

You can check out and purchase the package here at the VANEATS website.
