Have you ever experienced the burnt ends at Hogshack? If not, you’ll have to put it on your list of things to eat in Vancouver (well, they’re located in Steveston, but close enough). These burnt ends are not always available, so you’ll have to check their Twitter feed to see if they have them available for the day. They sell out quick too, so make sure to get there when you can.
We recently came here for Brian’s friend’s birthday – it seems like the boys really love this place! It is probably one of the best places to take a big group of guys, I realize. Anyway, they shared the ridiculously huge Mammoth Platter ($99) which comes with so much meat. It also comes with 6 sides.
One of our friends tried the Flat Line Burger challenge (which is a double burger patty between two grilled sandwiches…my heart hurts already just thinking about it) – for $18, if you can finish it in 5 minutes (which includes the side you choose with your burger) then it’s free, plus you get a Hog Shack T-Shirt. It doesn’t seem like a lot of people have been able to complete it, but here is our friend lookin’ a lil shameful.
My Burnt Ends were amazingly tender and fatty, as they are the fattier parts of the
rib end brisket (Thanks John for the clarification!). There is a nice lightly smoked taste to it. I think that the BBQ sauce was perfect, not too much to give it a bit of a tang. My sides were yam fries and coleslaw. Loved this platter.
Probably not something I can have every day, unless they decide to invent titanium hearts that prevent cloggage and cholesterol, but definitely a must when you’re at Hog Shack.
