Acme Cafe (located on Hastings and Carrall) is literally a little slice of pie heaven. So many people have been recommending it to me and since I was in the area (trying out Save On Meats), we had to stop and have a bite.

The space is clean, retro-modern, with cute glass containers containing most of the goodies (mainly cookies and sweets). There are several booths and some two person seating.

Amongst the three of us there, we split a quiche and a pie since we were all still full from Lunch #1. The quiche consisted of back bacon, swiss and tomatoes. It was chock full of flavour – mostly from the bacon. I like how the quiche wasn’t packed firm like some quiches – but had a firm crust and melty, crumbly middle.

The salad (with bacon bits and dill) and soup (tortilla/salsa) complimented it well, not over powering but light and flavourful.

The claim to fame at Acme Cafe are their pies and so we had to try one. We chose the Cherry Pie. The pie was double the height of most and filled mainly with big, ripe cherries as opposed to some pies that are mostly stuffed with that sugary filling and little pieces of fruit here and there. The cherries were neither too sweet or sour, and the crust was a little buttery and a whole lot of crumble (yum).

This place is a great place to take a date if you’re walking around Gastown or even if you just want to enjoy great flavours and a nice slice of pie.

Our server was polite, knowledgeable and came to check up on us several times.
