Summer has got to be my favourite time of year when it comes to food. It’s when all the delicious, juicy fruits are in season! Among my favourite: watermelon, cantaloupes, peaches, plums and cherries!

My recent trip to the Okanagan was proof that a lot of these fruits – especially cherries were in abundance. For the most part at my place, cherries go pretty quick- especially when they’re nice and cold on a hot summer day. But when I do have the discipline to keep some for baking purposes, I turn to making a Cherry Pie.

The best place to get cherries (asides from the local Farmer’s Markets or the Okanagan itself) is Whole Foods. Yes, it might be a little more expensive than most places but you’re paying for good quality cherries here. There are so many times I’ve gone to different supermarkets to pick up a pound or two of fruit and when I get home, the middle part is either moldy or the fruit isn’t tasty – and I’m sure I’m not the only person who experiences this dissatisfaction. I recently picked up some cherries at Whole Foods that were big, juicy, sweet and not ONE was wilted or moldy.

They had a recent sale for their 3rd annual Cherry Fest (until July 24) at $1.99/lb for cherries (which sold out in a matter of hours!).

Anyway here are some great recipes for cherries (should you choose not to gobble them all up like I did!):
