I might even dare to say that it’s the East Side’s answer to La Taqueria. They have a long list of different types of tacos you can order (with corn or potato tortillas) – but they are more than a one-trick pony. They offer an extensive list of tortas (sandwiches), huraches, quesadillas and burritos. I felt compelled to order one of every type, but it was a good thing I didnt (I could barely finish my order).
I ordered the Pierna Burrito ($8.25) which is slow roasted pulled pork. Yes, I know burritos are not considered authentic Mexican food – I was actually planning on ordering tacos but when I saw her wrapping this monstrosity for someone else, I just had to try it. Stuffed with ridiculous amounts of rice, cheese, tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms and we can’t forget – the pulled pork. The spices and peppers really helped this dish but it tastes even better with some of the spicy salsa they offer on the side counter. Don’t forget to grab a little bit for this amazing meal.
Julianne ordered the Cordero Al Cilantro (lamb marinated in cilantro), Chorizo and Vegetarian0 (zucchini and veggies). Their tacos are $2.25 each, $2.75 with cheese. They’re about the size of the ones you can get at La Taqueria.
Kelvin ordered the Pollo Pibil (slow roasted chicken breast), Pierna and Carne Asada (grilled beef) and another one but we both forgot which one he had ordered.
You can also make it into a special for a couple extra dollars to include a drink and either soup, tortilla chips or rice. Here at Sal y Limon, they too have Horchata (a delicious cinnamon drink that literally tastes like a melted cinnamon bun), Agua Fresca and Mexican Coca Colas.
I’m not entirely sure why they’re called Mexican Coca Colas since they seem to look and taste the same as any you can get in Asia and in the US, so…yeah. Anyway, I love these bottles so I had to get one for myself.
It was also Julianne’s birthday today and they were kind enough to give her a little cake treat for celebrating with them!
The food is great and authentic, the service is a little slow but I’m assuming this is because they’re still in their opening months and they only had 2 people working with a lineup out the door. Insane.
Definitely give this place a go next time you’re in the Fraser/Kingsway area!
