Forgive me Gastrofork readers as I’m catching up with my posts. This one is a little on the dated side. The Gastrofork posse (Liane, Adrian, Nathalie and myself) attended TEDxVancouver recently and after a full day of ideas worth spreading, we were ready to eat.

Originally we were looking for ramen, but since they were packed we made our way down Denman and walked by this place: Legendary Noodle. I’ve heard some great things about this place, so we thought we’d give it a shot. The restaurant itself is narrow and with ample seating. We were just happy to get out of the cold. We all started off with tea (Jasmine and Chrysanthemum) which was given to us in those old fashioned big plastic cups. I felt like I was thrown back in time when I was a lil gastrofork, going to ‘Chinese’ food places with my parents. It was kind of an endearing moment.

For starters, Adrian ordered spring rolls, Liane ordered dumplings and Nathalie ordered Lemon Chicken dumplings in spicy peanut sauce.

Everyone ordered a variety of different noodles in soups.

I ordered the Fresh Shredded Pork and Preserved Vegetable in Chicken broth (the closest thing to Taiwanese noodle soup which I was craving at the time).

As we chatted, I noticed that there was a man in the back kneading our noodles. My soup was absolutely delicious, by far one of the best places I’ve had this kind of soup. The noodles were fresh, springy and tasty. The portions are massive and the price is just right. I’ll have to admit, I was greatly surprised as I thought something this delicious wouldn’t be found downtown – let alone all the way down near English Bay. As the description on their website says: “Sometimes legends are hidden in the unlikeliest of places, so saunter[ed] up the streets to our noodle making shops where this is the case, our legend is made from dough.”
