The decoration is reminiscent of San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf with pallets on the wall, exposed light bulbs and ropes. We came on one of the most perfect days to be there – Weekend brunch, buck a shuck from opening till 5pm (every day) and lobster & crab fest ($19.95).
My dad ordered the New England Clam Chowder ($8.95) which is served in a sour dough bowl. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think this is the only place in Vancouver that serves it in a sour dough bowl. My dad really liked the chowder, it was still piping hot and he appreciated the fact that they didn’t scrape out most of the bread like most places.
He was almost at the end of it when he offered me a scoop and it was still hot, I wasn’t expecting that!
My mom and I ordered the lunch boxes ($11.99) which comes with either salad or soup. My mom ordered the Fish & Chips with soup and I ordered the Fish Tacos with soup.
My mom’s fish (I think it was either Haddock or Lingcod) was breaded nicely, very crispy on the outside and still moist and tender on the inside. She enjoyed the fries and also the Manhattan style Clam Chowder (made with a tomato base). The dish came with coleslaw, not specifically sure which one it is but she claimed it was spicy almost like wasabi. I’m assuming it was either the Horseradish or Asian Vinaigrette one. In any case, my dad ended up eating it!
My fish tacos were delicious. The cajun fish is lightly fried without batter with great spices. There was just enough veggies and sauce to make this dish quite delightful and tasty without being too heavy of a meal. The Manhattan chowder was good, but I prefer the creamier New England style instead.
I’d like to come back and have some Buck-A-Shuck oysters – my parents are trying to be more healthy and eat less seafood, so they wouldn’t have been fun partners on that front. My dad also wanted to come back and try the Crab & Lobster special I mentioned earlier.
