Although being on vacation usually means enjoying yourself, it never stopped me from enjoying a good deal – especially when the good deal is on food. Here are my picks for cheap eats around Maui:

1) Uluani’s Shaved Ice
No Hawaiian vacation is complete without shaved ice, and the way they serve it up could amount to a meal in itself! This is a must try if you’ve never had shaved ice before!

2) Kihei Caffe
Think greasy spoon diner and you’ve got the Kihei Caffe. The lineups are very long at this super popular destination, but perhaps the wait time will give you enough time to decide what to get? You can never go wrong with a Loco Moco – a hamburger drizzled in gravy and served with rice.

3) 808 Deli
This quick service deli is for ordering and taking out. All their sandwiches are filling and delicious. Our favourite? The Porkie.

4) Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop
If you’re driving from Kihei to Lahaina, you might just miss this because it’s on the highway and in some trees. They have the most delicious pies and they often switch flavours but their most popular – their banana pies are what everyone is stopping for. Try one for yourself!

5) Aloha Mixed Plate
The idea of sharing different items off friends or coworker’s plates turned into Hawaii’s “Mixed Plate”. The deal is – two scoops of rice, one scoop of macaroni and different ‘main’ scoops to try. Items include shoyu chicken, loco moco, teriyaki beef, kalua pig just to name a few. If mixed plates aren’t your thing, they also have an assortment of sandwiches, salads and noodles to keep you happy!
