When it comes to late night cravings or long work sessions, it’s inevitable for me to turn to fast food for a quick meal. And as much as I consciously try to aim for things a bit more diverse, it really is difficult to make smarter choices. That and most places don’t offer much in terms of ‘smarter’ choices or it’s ridiculously overpriced. Wendy’s is probably my favourite place to turn to for their salads (and obviously their burgers!). Of all the choices I have, I’d prefer a Wendy’s salad over any other fast food salad any day.
The reasoning being they actually have quite a diverse selection and when I order something like say, the BBQ Ranch Chicken salad, the chicken is actually warm.
I recently tried their BBQ Ranch Chicken Salad topped with fire-roasted corn, freshly diced tomatoes, freshly cooked Applewood-smoked bacon, cheddar, 11 different kind of field greens and the aforementioned grilled chicken breast and I’d have to say it’s a nice filling salad. A half order which is $4.99 is quite affordable and will fill you up if you’re looking for something quick.
While I was in Wendy’s, something else caught my eye – the Jalapeno Fresco Spicy Chicken burger. This burger might not look like much from my photo, but this is a spicy chicken breast, fresh-diced jalapenos, ghost pepper sauce, colby pepper jack cheese and red jalapeno bun. If you like your heat, this is the burger you’re looking for. I wouldn’t say it’s ridiculously hot, more so medium but bravo to Wendy’s for releasing a spicy burger! I love spicy (but not too spicy!) food and to see it done fairly well here gets definite points from me. The only other ‘fast food’ place that serves a spicy burger is Churches Chicken and I’d have to say I prefer Wendy’s over it in terms of taste and heat. Not sure when this is burger will be gone, but try it out while you still can!
I’m partnering up with Wendy’s to give away 2 $15 gift cards to try their delicious salads and the new burger, so enter below for your chance to win! I will be picking two winners on April 29th, 2015!
