After an entire season of festive eating, I’ve been trying to add more colour into my diet – meaning more veggies and fruits. Filipino cuisine isn’t known for it’s vegetarian options! Nathalie has raved about Shishinori to me and had previously covered it here on the blog, so I thought I’d check it out for lunch.

Shishinori is located near the Vancouver Broadway skytrain, so it’s pretty easy to get to the restaurant. The restaurant is small, probably seats less than 20 people and it’s very cute. They have anime playing on a screen and they offer different types of teas as well.

I ordered the Hawaii Ahi Poke Bowl with wasabi flavouring ($12) and added the combo of a drink and dessert (extra $2.50). I had a green tea and the dessert was mango pudding. The bowl was beautiful and bright, served with lots of healthy greens, pickled ginger, avocado, wakame, blueberries and cabbage.

The rice was a nice healthy portion, but I was a little disappointed at how little ahi tuna was on the plate. It was more of a snack sized portion. For $12, I would imagine it to have a bit more substance to the dish. The over all taste of the dish was good, but nothing that stood out in particular. Maybe the next time I come here, I will order another bowl as it looks like there is more weight to some of the other ones than this particular Ahi Tuna bowl.
