So fun fact, I love exploring YVR. It’s one of my favourite things to do when I go on vacation. There is always something new to see when I’m there. I love hanging out at the Observation Deck, checking out the food and shops in the Canadian area and the art throughout the International Departures.

There is also the Fairmont at YVR which is also a beautiful area to explore.

There is a new addition to the international departures area – Lift Bar + Grill. As the space continues to grow and reflect Vancouver’s diverse culinary scene, Lift is already seeing a great amount of travellers coming through since they opened in December 2016. Lift Bar is anchored by YVR’s large aquarium which ties perfectly to their coastal menu items. Their menu items are designed to be shared or to order multiple plates. Another great thing I love about the airport is that pricing is very similar to what you would find downtown and never overly priced.
Lift Bar + Grill’s Executive Chef Soojin Park has created a menu that displays our great resources here on the coast while paying homage to many flavours around the world.
Some of the standout items included the crab cakes, spicy tuna roll, spicy squid and the braised short rib.

Their crab cakes are full of flavour.

The spicy tuna roll was a nice kick of heat and will definitely fill your sushi needs before you fly off.

The spicy squid was tender and lightly breaded, one of my favourite items.

The braised short rib was tender and filling.
All in all, Lift Bar will be my go-to if I’m heading out on vacation. My parents have instilled a “Be at the airport super early!” mentality, so I will have lots of time to kill and now I know how to fill it (other than perusing the duty free shop!).
There are more great eats coming to the airport that will include local favourites and international brands which include the iconic Pajo’s Fish and Chips, Banh Shop (a Vietnamese street sandwich and bowl shop) and Freshii. All of these will be opening throughout 2017 and two additional concepts opening in 2019. In addition to these, they have Vino Volo, Booster Juice, BG Urban Cafe, Monk’s Grill, White Spot, Carls Jr. and Thai Hang.
YVR was voted best airport in the world last year and it’s no surprise – being someone who travels, it’s surprising how many airports don’t even come close to the interior design, layout and convenience like YVR. YVR’s well thought out nature helps passengers grab food at any YVR restaurant to take on their flight, provides universal access, works on sustainability with reclaimed wood and their recycling program, offers sustainable seafood and gluten-free and dietary options for everyone. You would be hard pressed to find a similar airport elsewhere.
