Tabetai Tacos is a stall at the Richmond Night Market. The stall serves up three different types of tacos: Kakuni (pork belly), Gyutan (beef tongue) and Soft Shell Crab. While I was tempted to try all three, I was mostly intrigued by the Soft Shell Crab taco.

The taco is massive: a soft shell crab deep fried and topped with guacamole, spicy miso mayo, teriyaki glaze, masago and nori. The soft shell crab is crispy with a good amount of breading. The taste of the soft shell crab is slightly briny (as you would expect from soft shell crab). It’s then topped generously with guacamole and the rest of the fixings. The guacamole helped to give the dish a bit more weight while the sweet and salty notes from the rest of the toppings rounded out the taco overall.

Each taco is $8, 2 for $14 and 3 for $20. With the amount of food and the type of ingredients served with the taco, I think the price is pretty justified.

I really enjoyed this taco and I’d have to say that it was the highlight of my evening at the night market. I’m definitely going to come back and try the other two flavours.
