Thankfully, Big Rock Urban Brewery has Happy Hour – which is perfect for in-between meal eats. They have a $5 Happy Hour Menu which includes olivers and pickles, bruschetta, glazed chicken skewers, 16 hour dry ribs in a variety of flavours and fish tacos. They also have drink specials that include draft beer, house wines and highballs.
I’ve been pretty mindful of my diet for the last couple months (and also, I was about to go have dinner), so I ordered the Bruschetta. It’s made with roma tomatoes, bail, red onion, crispy parmesan, stout balsamic reduction on a ciabatta style baguette.
What surprised me the most was the amount of bruschetta I was given – 4 well sized pieces with a nice healthy topping on each. The bruschetta was nice, sweet from the tomatoes but cut with the delicious balsamic reduction. I liked the bread as well – it was nice and crispy but still had a bit of snap to it.
I also ordered their Virgin Caesar ($5.95) made with Walter Caesar mix, BRU house-made rim spice, pickle juice, seasoning spices and served with a pepperoni stick and spicy bean. I’m a big fan of Walter Caesar mix (I try to keep it in stock at my place) and to see it pop up on more and more menus mean that the Caesars I’m getting are always consistently good. The virgin caesar here at BRU was good – very spice-oriented but with that nice sweet, thick after taste of the Walter caesar mix.
I’d definitely come back to try more of their Happy Hour menu when I’m back to work!
