Bubble tea fever will not die down and that’s perfectly fine with me – I noticed in the recent years that the quality of bubble tea has gone up and because of that, most places need to raise their standards in order to compete with other quality bubble tea places.
One place that’s opened up is called Chun Yang, you’ll find it near Izumiya in Richmond – it’s a tiny little spot that serves bubble tea that’s made with soy milk. This is perfect for the lactose intolerant people in your life who want to enjoy a bubble tea but can’t. I think this is part of a growing trend I’d love to see take off here in Vancouver, with different milk alternatives available for your bubble tea (almond milk, cashew milk?! It’d be delicious!).
For my first experience at Chun Yang, I went with their classic milk tea, Brian went with the ever popular brown sugar milk tea.
Overall I’d have to say that the tea used is quite nice – I find the black tea has good balance and isn’t too bitter overall. I’m also not that big a fan of the brown sugar milk teas and I really enjoyed the bit I had of Brian’s milk tea. I liked the pearls as well, they were a good size and not too chewy.
