This new dessert shop serves up authentic Vietnamese desserts in the heart of “Little Saigon” in Vancouver. There are so many items on the menu, it’s difficult to choose just one – but you’ll find fresh fruit slushies to sweet soups, condensed milk desserts and a lot more. The price point is pretty good, but I’d definitely recommend coming with a couple friends to try a couple items.
When we visited, we tried the Salted Egg Yolk Slice – one of the most popular items on their menu.
On top you’ll see the salted egg yolk, floss and a sweet glaze on a fluffy, milky cake. It’s definitely different than anything I’ve ever had before – its a nice mix of sweet, salty and slightly savoury if that’s your kind of thing for dessert!
Up next is the Pandan Jelly with flan. The pandan flavour is not too strong, but a nice compliment to the coconut and milky flavour from the flan.
The Coconut Pearl Dessert with Flan comes with coconut pearls, coconut milk and a burnt sugar sauce. It’s an interesting mix that reminded me of leche flan Filipino style with coconut infuse in the flavour. I liked the addition of pearls as it gave it an interesting texture to the otherwise smooth flan.
The Thai Mixed Fruit Dessert with Durian in Coconut Milk – phew there’s a lot going on in this dish: durian, jackfruit, tapioca, pandan jellies, mungbean paste, matcha balls, pandan balls, coconut milk and crushed ice. Overall, this was the least favourite of mine – but it’s because normally I’m not a big fan of too many different textures in one dish (so you can imagine, I’m not a big Halo Halo fan either). The flavour overall of each item was good – particularly the durian if you like it.
I’d love to come back and try more desserts! I love seeing more dessert places open up that are atypical of what you’d find in Vancouver, so I’m all for more Vietnamese desserts!
