Dockside Restaurant is back for another year with Dine Out Vancouver! Their $35 menu features some local flavours with Asian twists. I was invited recently to check out the Dine Out Vancouver menu, here are my thoughts:

The Starters:

Cucumber Caprese – this twist on the traditional caprese salad finds sweetness and refreshing flavours from the strawberry wrapped in the cucumber. The pomegranate reduction creates a nice sweeter flavour to balance out the crispness of the cucumber and tomato.

Beef Empanadas – the crispy shell and warm beef inside is balanced out with the tomato bell pepper relish and given a bit more heaviness with the avocado crema.

Korean spiced Arancini – these Arancini balls are a nice twist and the brightest of the starters. Itโ€™s crispy exterior is flavoured with a nice (not too spicy) kick and then served on a bed of chilli lime aioli.

The Entrees:

Singapore Seafood curry – this curry is packed with great seafood – mussels, shrimp, salmon to name a few and topped with coconut rice cakes that give a different texture to the dish overall. Although it has the rice cakes, I think the dish could do with some rice or other grain to soak up the rest of the curry.

Grilled Lamb rack – The grilled lamb rack is served with three lamb โ€˜popsโ€™. Youโ€™ll find the lemon herb gnocchi underneath with chimichurri. The flavour is nice overall, with no overwhelming gamey flavour to it. The gnocchi has good flavour but felt a tad bit overcooked.

Crispy Braised Chicken thigh – this dish is served with flageolet bean cassoulet and pan jus. Overall, the cassoulet stood out flavour wise in this dish.

Mushroom Goat Cheese Risotto – this is the vegetarian option for the Dine Out Menu, the risotto is made with foraged wild mushrooms and goat cheese. While I appreciated the not too overwhelming flavour from the goat cheese, I felt like this dish could use a bit more flavour to it.

The Desserts:

Apple Pie โ€œlollipopโ€ a la mode – this cute twist on apple pie with vanilla ice cream is a good way to end the meal.

Chocolate Crรจme Brรปlรฉe served with a house made biscotti. The chocolate creme brulee has a mild, not too sweet and slightly smoky flavour.
