It is always a pleasure eating with my famjam – and it has been particularly fun with our little nephew and his family since he is a growing foodie in the making. Little K eats basically anything and seems to have an unfathomable appetite!

Anyway, we were invited by Lily and Albert to eat at Yu Xiang Yuan Restaurant, located on Fraser, a little south of 49th. They specialize in hand pulled noodles – not too sure why I haven’t seen this place sooner, as it looks like it has been here for a long time.

We started off with a beef roll. I liked that it wasn’t so greasy compared to other restaurants but was a bit heavier/breadier than most. The inside beef and hoisin wasn’t too overbearing so that I could still eat the other dishes coming.

Our next dish is the Flavoured Beef and Tripe in Spicy Sauce ($8.95) – it’s served with peanuts and cilantro. This was my favourite dish of the evening! It’s served cold, but it was nice and refreshing and bit on the spicy side, so be warned!

Here’s little K waiting for someone to pass him some chopsticks so he can dig in! πŸ˜‰

We ordered sliced rice roll tossed with some green oinon, sprouts and meat (chicken if I remember correctly). I love these rice roll slivers, they are fun to eat. I think overall all the dishes we ordered were not too heavy and greasy, which I appreciated.

Being at a hand pulled noodle shop, we obviously had to order a noodle dish. Tasty, fresh and still quite bouncy/elastic, this dish didn’t last very long at our table!

Brian ordered the Curry Chicken with rice ($7.95), while it was good, it wasn’t anything too memorable, just your typical Chinese curry dish. I found this place a little more watery (probably because it doesnt look like they added any coconut milk to the curry).

And, being at a Shanghai Northern Chinese restaurant, I had to order the Xiao Long Bao. The meat on the inside was a good flavour and texture and the buns were perfectly cooked.

I would definitely come back here again if I’m craving some noodles and that beef and tripe dish! Note that they are CASH ONLY!
