For a joint birthday celebration, we visited Atlas Steak + Fish, located in the Delta Hotel in Burnaby. They were able to accommodate our group of 12 with no issues.

The space is large but cozy for groups, and the ambiance is what you’d expect at a steakhouse (moody and dark) but definitely more contemporary in design.

They started us off with bread served table side – the bread is fluffy and still warm when it came out.

I ordered their seasonal oysters (kusshi that day) half a dozen for $24. It’s served with champagne vinegar mignonette. You can never go wrong with oysters here in the West Coast. Every one was fresh and had very little grit to them.

I then had the 6oz Beef Tenderloin ($35). Their steaks are prepared slightly different than your normal steakhouse – they’re prepared in a mesquite-fire Josper oven which gives it a slightly smoky flavour to them. My tenderloin was served medium rare and was perfect. Each bite melted in my mouth and was so easy to cut into.

I didn’t take a photo because I was too caught up in my steak, but I ordered the Gorgonzola Mac and Cheese ($12). My server warned me that it was quite potent and she was not kidding. This was a bit overwhelming in the flavour. It’s definitely for someone who enjoys gorgonzola. For me, it was a bit much for my taste.

Overall, that experience at the steak house was great. The food and ambiance made for a nice, upscale type of dinner with my friends. The only issue I had with the restaurant was the time it took to prepare our entire order. It was a Friday night and they were super busy but we waited a little over an hour for our food to arrive. Thankfully, we were all catching up and didn’t notice for most of the time, except for when we passed the one hour mark.

I’d definitely like to come back and try more dishes out – their Baked Alaska looked really cool – and some other items on their menu.
