Bake 49’s menu is a small one to keep it simple, you’ll find: Sapporo style Cheese Tarts, Croquant Choux, Double Frontage Cheesecake and Milk Soft Serve Ice Cream
On my recent visit, I ordered some cheese tarts and Croquant Choux to try.
The Croquant Choux ($4.50) starts with a crunchy almond crusted exterior which is filled with vanilla bean custard creme. The exterior is crunchy and airy and slightly sweet. The vanilla bean interior is a nice, rich flavour of vanilla that isn’t too sweet. I felt like it could use more cream in the choux overall.
The Sapporo style Japanese cheese tarts ($3.80, 6 for $19) are double baked and filled with a cream cheese mousse. It was fresh out the oven when we arrived. These cheese tarts are definitely an acquired taste, if you’re looking for a more savoury dessert, you’ll enjoy these tarts as they’re more cheesy than sweet. One tart is fairly dense and rich, most often it’s enough for one person!
