Catch 122 is the latest addition to the Gastown food fare and has been getting rave reviews. Although I hear a lot about their brunch, I came here for lunch this time around.
We were seated pretty quickly and given corkboard menus – a very beautiful and interesting touch. The atmosphere fits the Gastown ambiance perfectly – complete with bricks and wooden beams, low hanging lights and a lengthwise open kitchen set up. I like it because it’s clean and very functional. They have a take out area where you can order coffee, pastries and even a variety of take home meals.
My dining partner today was Vincent Ng and he ordered the Slow Roasted Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese sandwich ($12). It’s described as “Catch 122 special BBQ sauce, caramelized red onion, havarti cheese on grilled panini”. All sandwiches come with either pomme frites (skinny fries), soup or salad.
I ordered the Avocado Veggie ($11) which was thick avocado slices with tomato, arugula, caramelized red onion, havarti cheese and roasted pepper cream cheese grilled on a panini. To sum it up – HEAVEN. This is by far the best vegetarian sandwich I’ve ever had to date. The avocado is creamy but the tomato and arugula keeps the taste. But what really makes it amazing is the caramelized onion and the roasted pepper cream cheese. Heaven. I’m hooked.
