When we arrived, we were greeted and then handed white wine mimosas. These puppies are dangerous – they’re sweet and refreshing and you forget that there is alcohol in it!
We chatted with some great local twitter people including Grace (GraceCheung604), Angela (Food Punk), Kevin (604Foodtography), Dennis and May (Pangcouver), Amy (VancityAmy), Kathy, Alice, Eric, Glen and many many more people.
My dad and I stuffed ourselves silly with the fantastic amount of food they were passing around. I’ve been to my share of tweetups and this was probably one of the best ones this year thus far! They kept the food coming and the liquor flowing.
Their infamous seafood tower was one of the highlights with a lot of great options on it – my dad enjoyed most of it since I had to stay away from shellfish.
They also generously passed around steak wrapped asparagus, Miso Sablefish, Salmon Sliders, breaded shrimp, Ahi Tuna (or Albacore – depending on who was serving it ?!) with Garlic Aioli in cones and monstrous sized prawn tempuras.
All the food was phenomenal as usual and I left feeling stuffed! On the other side of the bistro area Oyster Bob was showing us how to shuck oysters.
They also had a photo booth area that me and my dad capitalized on while we were there. If you haven’t been to Joe Fortes, I suggest you do – they have great lunch specials for under $10 and an Early Bird dinner from 4-6 pm which is a 3 course meal for under $35. It’s a great place to go in terms of atmosphere and food – Joe Fortes has this old elegance that reminds me a lot of New York restaurants that is hard to find here in Vancouver!
Congratulations to Joe Fortes on their 2nd year on twitter and many more to come!
