Diana and I stopped at the Kangaroo Creek Farm in Kelowna on a recent trip and if you know me, I am a huge sucker for cute animals! To be quite honest, I don’t really write too much about zoos or farms although I’ve been to a couple in my travels to Seattle, Disneyworld, San Fran and Hawaii. I just feel like sometimes it makes me sad to think of them being kept in one place. But that being said, I know that there are conservatories and programs at certain zoos and farms that rescues animals that would otherwise be in trouble.
I’m not entirely sure what the story is behind the Kangaroo Creek Farm, there’s not too much information on their website, so if you know the backstory, do let me know in the comments below.
The Kangaroo Creek Farm is a large area that’s filled with kangaroos, wallabys, wallaroos, emus, capybaras, goats and other birds. The kangaroo and wallaby area is a large place for them to roam and they’re mixed with turkeys (?). These kangas are much smaller than I’d imagine they’d be – although for comparison, the first thing that comes to mind is that super jacked kangaroo video that’s been making it’s rounds on the internet.
In the other area at the farm are goats, capybaras, ducks and chickens. The goats are funny and a bit aggressive with each other, but it makes for good entertainment. I’m wondering if it has something to do with mating season?
The farm is open 10am-2pm mostly, except for July and August when they have hours 9am-2pm and then 6-8pm. This is to make sure the kangas are not stressed out by too many visitors.
The entrance price (at time of writing) is $10 for adults, $5 for youth under 19 and seniors and free for kids under 5. They are cash only, so make sure to bring plenty for entrance.
