Marcello’s has become the go-to restaurant for my friends and I. Personally, I love the pizza and the lasagna, but the pasta leaves much to be desired. We went not too long ago and this time around, I decided to try their Cannelloni Di Magro.

As you can probably tell, it was so cheesy- excessively so. It took away from the spinach taste.

My husband and I shared the Antipasto Della Casa for starters which was a mix of marinaded olives, artichokes, roasted peppers, foccacia bread and baby mushrooms. Their platter was big and very tasty.

My husband decided to try their Classico Calzone, and he too found it to be way too much cheese and not much other ingredients (salami and ham).

A friend of mine ordered the spicy Spaghetti (which one, I don’t remember), but her pasta was the perfect blend of spice and sauce. Another friend of mine ordered the Chef Tagliatelle which was egg noodles with mushrooms, olives and capers in creamy tomato sauce.

I love the ambience in Marcello’s, I especially love their wood burning oven that is a giant face/mask right in the middle of the restaurant.

I really wish I decided to order a pizza because I could rant about how delicious they are – they’re made Naples style and its very simple but delectable. I guess I’ll know for next time!

Food – 3.5 FORKS
I love the pizza, the lasagna and the appys, but everything else is very meh. I wish it was a bit more consistent.

Service – 4 FORKS
Our server was prompt and always filled up our glasses, asked if we wanted refills and was very handy when we needed her.

Value – 3.5 FORKS
It’s typical italian food in Vancouver pricing. Decent.

Ambiance – 4 FORKS
If you can get past the fact that they are always packed and perhaps you may get bumped here and there with people walking past, then you can appreciate the foliage of the place. As I mentioned before, their wood burning oven is definitely the centerpiece. I love the look and theme of the restaurant – mediterranean, complete with blue and white serving plates and the colours and decor on the wall. Also, they have a huge chandelier with wine bottles sticking out of it. Very interesting.
