If there’s one thing that Vancouverites love, it’s their desserts. The latest trend is the Mille Crêpe Cake – which are “thousand” layer cakes. While the cakes are not necessarily a thousand layers, the cake is painstakingly made with layers of thin crepes that are sandwiched with French pastry cream. The cake itself originates from France but has seen a rise in popularity, particularly in Asia (and now here!).

On top of their selection of cakes, Miss Lina in Richmond offers Afternoon tea as well. Their cakes have typical flavours like strawberry, chocolate, vanilla but they also offer mango, rose and even durian if you’re feeling adventurous.

I ordered the Matcha Mille Crêpe cake ($12.75). The cake had a very strong, impactful flavour of matcha. The crepes are on the doughy side, and to be honest, I’m not quite sure I’m a fan of mille crepe cakes in general. The matcha pastry cream is thin and added to the moisture of the cake.

I can’t say I could justify the price for a slice of cake, but if you’ve never had one before, I guess there’s always a first for everything!
