I’m starting off with Miura Waffle Bar, in it’s new location right on Main and Broadway. I’m going to go old school on you and say, “I remember when Miura was downtown…” but it looks to me that the menu is similar but more so streamlined with a few new happy additions.
You can try from either their Savoury or Sweet “Sandos” which are waffle sandwiches. I don’t know about you, but waffles are always the answer in my books. If I can have a waffle in my meal, there is no question that it would be part of my meal. What is the allure behind the waffle? Not quite sure, but perhaps its the sweet but slightly crunchy, bready taste to the waffle and it’s lovely square but round shape that makes it so appealing.
Anyway, back to the review! They also have a variety of different munchies available after 4pm. I came here during lunch time, so I had to skip out on those but it didn’t really matter because I had my eyes on the GFC. Why the GFC? It had two of my favourite ingredients. Garlic. Fried Chicken. Yes.
You can add a drink and nori chips to your meal for an extra couple of dollars, which I did- for research purposes of course.
The sandwich. The garlic fried chicken did not disappoint. It was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside and garlicky all over. Even just staring at the photo while I write this review is making my mouth water a tad bit. It’s accompanied by lettuce, teriyaki sauce and mayo. The lettuce gives it an extra crunch but I think it serves a different purpose – to keep your waffle as crisp as it can while you munch away. But who are we kidding, the enormous hunk of chicken soaked right into the waffle, so there was a bit of a time crunch to eat it.
The nori chips are a nice addition, it reminds me a little bit of a Tao Kae Noi, this delicious fried seaweed snack you can get at your local T&T – but without the flavouring. Interesting, crispy alternative to your conventional chips or fries.
It’s great to see Miura back and at it again, and with a central location at Main and Broadway, I can foresee them being there for a long time.
