We are in the golden age of matcha desserts – with so many new places popping up including chains from Japan and Hawaii. One that has been around for a little while now is Nana’s Green Tea, located in Kerrisdale. Here, they serve up an assortment of green tea centric desserts that include loaves, soft serve, parfaits and drinks.

Nathalie and I came here recently and maybe…JUST maybe, over ordered a bit – but all in the name of food writing, right? We ordered:  Black Sesame latte, Matcha parfait, matcha soft serve,  matcha swiss roll, matcha marble loaf and Black Sesame dessert.

The parfait was by far our favourite – it was a good mix of sesame, matcha soft serve, matcha mochi, whip cream and crunchy cereal. It reminded me a lot of when I was younger when my mom used to put cornflakes in my ice cream which I loved. This parfait is definitely a good item to share!

The Black Sesame items are a good contrast to the matcha items – the latte is a good flavour without being too overly done and not too sweet at all.

The dessert is light on top and crunchy on the bottom with a great sesame filling in the middle.

The roll cake is good, not too sweet and spongy – I think it would’ve been great to have more cream filling to it, but that’s just my personal preference.

The loaf is good too, it would be a great side to a stronger coffee or matcha latte. It’s dense, moist and not too sweet.

Finally the matcha soft serve, this was Nathalie’s favourite. The matcha in all the items is not bitter at all and always just enough and never overbearing.

Nana’s Green Tea has seasonal items, so there’s always something new to try as well.
