Before a meeting, I stopped by the Noodlebox on Main street for a quick bite to eat. Noodles have been my thing during my pregnancy (as they’re lower on the glycemic index than rice, I could eat them more freely as I was gestationally diabetic). I remember way back in the day when Noodlebox first arrived, it was one of the first restaurants who really embraced making their items with high end ingredients that were nutritious, while accommodating to different dietary restrictions.

I ordered the Spicy Peanut Noodle Box ($12.60). This is kind of my go-to when I am at Noodlebox. It’s made with Indonesian style peanut sauce (with coconut milk), garlic, onions, greens, sprouts, peppers, cilantro and roasted peanuts atop glass noodles. You can choose the type of protein you want in the box – I went with tofu. You also select the spice level, I choose medium. Normally I choose medium/hot because Noodlebox knows how to do spicy right, but because I was nine months pregnant at the time, someone told me that spicy food induces the baby, so I didn’t want to cause a scene at my meeting!

The portion size of each noodle bowl is pretty generous, so if you’re starving, it’ll satisfy you. I really enjoyed the flavours – it was a nice, soothing bowl of peanut sauce and I loved the crunchiness from the beansprouts. The spice level was good and enjoyable as well. I also liked the use of broccoli to add to the crunch.

As I got to the bottom of my bowl, it was starting to turn a little soupy – it felt like there was a lot more sauce than I expected. Other than that, it was a good meal and a nice change from my regular lunch time eats.
