One of the oldest restaurants in Vancouver is definitely the Old Spaghetti Factory, so I’m not surprised that it’s opened up a location in Whistler. It’s tucked away underground in the Crystal Lodge & Suites hotel. I came here because my parents and I were looking for a lunch spot that wasn’t a quick service, pub or super expensive restaurant and this was middle ground. We came at a great time because there was a lull and we didn’t wait more than 5-10 minutes for a table, however after we were seated, there was a huge lineup outside.
What the Old Spaghetti Factory is known for is its multiple course meal that includes: bread, soup or salad, ice cream and coffee or tea with your entree.
I ordered the Spicy Chorizo Penne Al Fresca ($15.95), it’s served with spicy chorizo sauteed in garlic, fresh marinara sauce with penne.
Sourdough bread is served first with whipped garlic butter and plain butter. The sourdough bread was soft and tasted good with the garlic butter.
The salad is fairly basic and you get to choose the dressing on it. It’s a nice, small size to get your meal started.
My parents started with a clam chowder (which is a bit extra – $2.50) and they thought it was just ok.
My entree was ok, it was a decent size for lunch. I wish that the chorizo was cut up a bit more because it was essentially split in half so I had to cut it up myself.
We finished off with Spumoni ice cream which is chocolate, vanilla and pistachio. It was a good portion to finish off the meal. It wasn’t too creamy but good enough.
Overall, if you’re hungry and looking for a quick meal, Old Spaghetti Factory is a good middle ground option in terms of price and value.
