On a row of quick places to grab a slice of pizza is Sushi Zero One, a refreshing change. With the ability to order online and free delivery downtown Sushi Zero One wants to be your go-to joint, especially if you work around the area.

A friend of mine invited me out to catch up and also invited Ms. PandaFoodie (check out her website here)! I was running a little late for our one o’clock meeting but when I arrived, the lineup was out the door. Rightly so-it’s prime lunch time.

I was greeted warmly by the cashier who took my order and repeated it to me. I ordered the Chirashi Don ($7.15). I was tempted to get another roll, but perhaps I’ll save it for another visit. According to the menu, the Chirashi includes tuna, salmon, saba, hokkigai, ebi and masago.

We chatted for a bit while we waited for our meals to come – it didn’t take too long.

This was my Chirashi Don – while it isn’t gourmet chirashi don, it was a pretty filling meal. The slices of fish were just the right size (not too little!). I like the addition of saba, as I normally never have this fish, it was a good balance since it had a saltier, fishier taste than the rest of the sashimi. They gave a generous amount of wasabi (which I love). I think it would’ve been better if they placed the seaweed either on the side or on top of the fish, as I do enjoy the seaweed but it was rather soggy when I got past the fish. I liked the addition of diced marinated mushrooms (they tasted almost like as if they were pickled). The rice portion was good, I had a lot left over. Speaking of the rice, I have to say that they do the rice right – it’s not too vinegary and it’s not overcooked. Sushi rice is just as important as the fish on it.

I would like to come back and try some of their specialty rolls, but maybe during a time when they’re not so busy.
