When it comes to visiting the US , there are usually two to three items I gravitate towards when it comes to meals: seafood, bbq and crazy deep fried/junk food. Seafood because it’s much cheaper than Vancouver, BBQ because no one does it better than they do and crazy, deep fried junk food because obvious reasons.

Admittedly, this review has been sitting in my post list for a long time, but since I have all this extra time at home with baby, I thought I’d catch up. Brian and I went to Seattle for our anniversary as a quick getaway. This time, we decided to stay in Bellevue, which has more restaurants, malls and less touristy. I’m almost wanting to say I prefer coming to Bellevue over Seattle, but it’s because I used to go to Seattle every weekend growing up (we had relatives living there).

One of the most popular restaurants in Seattle is The Crab Pot – it’s well known for it’s seafood boils. There is a Crab Pot location in Seattle at the Pier, but it’s always so busy there. The Bellevue location wasn’t as busy, I think we only waited 15 minutes (as opposed to 45mins to an hour at the Seattle one).

Brian and I ordered The Westport Seafeast ($40 per person). This comes with dungeness crab, snow crab, shrimp, steamed clams and Pacific mussels, andouille sausage, corn on the cop and red potatoes.

Hi Brian!

The fun part is that they roll butcher paper on your table then give you a bib and mallet to get to work on your meal. It’s a fun way to eat.

Before your meal comes, some bread comes to the table to start your meal. The bread is ok, ours was a bit on the tougher side but we didn’t come for bread.

There isn’t much seasoning to the seafood (even though it looks like it in the photo), the seafood is pretty straight forward but they do serve it with a side of butter. I asked for white vinegar to go with my crab and every time I do this, no matter where I go, I get an interesting response. Mostly that no one ever asks for it, or curiousity as to why I eat it with vinegar.

My parents always served our crab at home with vinegar, salt and sometimes crushed garlic, so it’s this thing I crave every time. Odd, but delicious – try it!

The seafood is good and theres a good amount here for two people. We could barely finish the corn and potatoes.

I know we have a lot of places here that emulate The Crab Pot now, but I still think price wise and portion wise, it’s still great to check out seafood boils in the US.
