Mekong Restaurant in Whistler’s Creekside Village offers a vibrant escape into the bold, fresh flavors of Southeast Asia. With Chef Bonnie and Executive Chef Angus An at the helm, the dining experience here is a perfect balance of authenticity and creativity. My visit included the prix-fixe 3-course menu, which allowed us to try a diverse range of dishes that were crafted with great care and attention to detail.
We started with the Som Tum Corn, a refreshing take on the classic papaya salad. This version, featuring green papaya, tomatoes, and grilled corn, is a must-try for fans of this popular dish. The Tom Yum Chicken Wings followed, delivering a crispy, flavor-packed bite seasoned with a blend of six spices that truly mimicked the essence of tom yum soup.
The Chicken and Grilled Squid Salad was another standout, combining oven-roasted Loong Kong chicken with grilled squid and the bold flavors of black nam jim and Thai aromatics. Another highlight was the 8 Spice Crispy Cauliflower, which was deliciously glazed in tamarind caramel and seasoned with a medley of Thai spices that added a unique twist to every bite.
For our main dishes, the 3 Flavour Ling Cod was wok-fried to perfection, bringing together Pacific lingcod with onions, peppers, baby corn, and Thai basil for a delightful fusion of textures and flavors. The Red Curry Japanese Yam, featuring oven-roasted yam in a rich red curry sauce with lychee, makrut lime leaf, and Thai basil, added a comforting, slightly sweet finish to our meal.
The $38 prix-fixe menu, along with the wine pairing, was absolutely worth it! Sharing these six beautifully crafted dishes as a duo allowed us to enjoy a full range of Mekong’s flavors in one sitting. For anyone looking to explore the essence of Southeast Asian cuisine in Whistler, Mekong is a must-visit.
