Yes – YES! Brunch is FINALLY available at Chewies in Coal Harbour. As much as I love Kitsilano, it’s pretty far of a trek for me. I think when we went it was the second weekend they were doing brunch, so it was pretty quiet – but hopefully we can help spread the word (or, we could not…so it’ll never be busy when we go!).

They have all your favourites from Kits and a couple I don’t remember seeing on their menu in Kits that were made for their Coal Harbour location.

It was a bit of a mini-reunion of BCIT friends – Adrian, Liane, Dexter, Brian and myself. I always enjoy catching up with them and wish I could spend more time with them like we did back in the days.

I find with brunch there’s this ‘stigma’ that brunch is a ladies deal where guys only brunch if they’re with their girl friends. Maybe it’s cuz of the mimosas and ‘dainty’ food but you know what there are so many great brunch places in the city that can break that stereotype. Guess what? Chewies is one of these places.

Anyway, if you follow them on Instagram or Twitter, they occasionally do some cool things like giving away free mimosas to the first 15 people to come in for brunch that morning!

Adrian and Dexter ordered the Chicken Fried Steak as recommended by our server.

Brian and Liane ordered the Chicken and Waffles because….chicken and waffles. They’re plated a little different here, more high end looking I guess, considering the location. Kitsilano waffles are a little laid back.

You’ve already heard me go on about my love for the chicken and waffles here, the crispy chicken and the Cajun honey butter drizzled waffles that give it that nice kick. The Kits and CH ones are very comparable.

I went with the Southern Fried Chicken Benny ($18). I mentioned this in my last post, but I really wish they could put on their menu something similar to PineState Biscuits (well I suppose it’s not really New Orleans style that way) but having the biscuits and the chicken, cheese and gravy in the middle would be mind blowing. In any case, I got the next best thing – the Southern Fried Chicken Benny.

It comes with a mountain of hash but can we focus on this beautiful, runny egg for a second? Perfection.

The chicken was nice and tender but crispy on the outside. The biscuit was good but I found it a little dry, I dipped it into the yolk and it made for better flavour.

We all enjoyed our time here and everyone is so friendly, you feel right at home. I think my friends and I will have to make this more of a regular thing.

Check out my post on their dinner service here.

Their brunch menu for Coal Harbour is not up yet, but check this space for the future menu.
