I’ve finally had a chance to check out this place in North Burnaby. They are only open for lunch on weekdays, but they serve a great baguette. Family owned by Ross and Isabelle, stepping into Chez Meme is like stepping into a bistro in France.

From the looks on the inside, they cater to many different tastes and wants. There is always a bit of a wait, but it’s fine if you aren’t in a rush. We waited about 10-15 minutes and we were seated promptly.

My dining partner today was Benson, and he ordered the Cordon Bleu (Black forest ham, chicken, Emmenthal and Dijon Mustard – $9.25). All baguette sandwiches come with your choice of soup, green salad or fries. He went with the fries, which were prepared fresh and cooked very well.

I went with the Snitzel (Pork loin, lemon caper mayo, tomatoes, lettuce and grainy Dijon – $8.75). I loved the crisp exterior of the baguette and the soft, chewy bread in the middle – this is definitely how baguettes should always be. The pork loin was good but it is the lemon caper mayo and grainy Dijon that bring the brightness to the sandwich. These baguettes are deceivingly filling. I ordered the daily soup which happened to be butternut and carrot soup. I hear great things about their French Onion soup but it slipped my mind that day. However, this soup was nice and refreshing.
