I love breakfast. Conveniently, the Dubh Linn Gate Irish Pub, which was attached to our hotel, the Pan Pacific Mountainside, serves breakfast until noon. We ate there a few times; once for dinner and twice for breakfast.

The night we tried it for dinner, it was very busy. It is “seat yourself” so we looked around for a table and eventually found one on the patio. It took a few minutes for a server to notice us, but once she did the service was quite quick.

We weren’t super hungry, so we each only ordered a bowl of soup; tomato for me, clam chowder for my companion. Both soups were good, but that’s all I can really say about their dinner menu, since we didn’t try anything else. I did see that they have typical pub food on their menu: nachos, burgers, Irish stew etc. And they have live music at night, which always makes for a good evening.

All their meals come with a basket of Irish soda bread for the table. I’d never heard of it before but we both really liked it. It was similar to the consistency of banana bread. but not sweet.

We also ate breakfast there twice. Since it was nice out, we sat on the patio and enjoyed the morning sun as we ate.
The breakfast menu had the usual suspects: pancakes, eggs benedict, bacon/sausage/ham and eggs etc. The first day I tried the classic eggs benedict. It came with fresh fruit and potatoes. I can’t remember what they called the potato, but it was basically a big ball of hashbrowns deep fried and topped with chive sour cream. It was really good. I would’ve been happy just eating that.

I liked the eggs benedict. The eggs were poached perfectly, with the yolks still completely runny. I couldn’t finish my meal, but if I had the stomach space, I would have.

dlg5

My companion ordered scrambled eggs with ham, which also came with fresh fruit and potatoes. He said he liked his food.

dlg6

The second day, I ordered the Irish Scramble. It’s basically an omelette with tomatoes, mushrooms and cheese, and came with potatoes. I’m not always a fan of omelettes but I decided to give it a try.

dlg7

It wasn’t my favourite, but I honestly think that’s because of my personal disinterest in omelettes rather than the actual quality of the food. My companion had the whole wheat pancakes with berries. The plate comes with three big fluffy pancakes. He was very impressed with them and said they were very good. The server later told us that they were vegan-friendly, too.

Overall, the prices, service and food quality are all quite good. If you’re looking for a casual meal in the village, from morning til late, I  recommend it as a place to try.
