I happened to be in the neighbourhood of Burrard and 6th in Kitsilano and was looking for a coffee shop to do a bit of work before a meeting. Elysian is a bit tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Burrard, but by no measure does this mean that they are slow. They were actually quite busy and I was worried I wouldn’t be able to nab a spot – but I did.
Elysian Coffee roasts their coffee beans in house and they’ve even partnered up Brassneck Brewery and made a coffee beer.
My drink of comparison for coffee shops is either a mocha or latte – in this case I went with the mocha. It was a beautiful cup of coffee with just the right amount of caffeine – not bitter but not too sweet, you can taste the roast of the coffee. The mocha flavour itself is not too sweet either and not granular or syrupy. By far one of the best mochas I’ve had in the city.
Asides from this, they have some great pastries – which looks like it’s made inhouse (correct me if I’m wrong!). I had a cheddar scone and it was nice, moist and dense. They also offer up sparkling water, which is becoming more popular with coffee places nowadays and I never say no to a glass!
If you’re in the neighbourhood looking for a great cup of coffee, I suggest you check out Elysian Coffee.
