King Chicken is located near the Rupert skytrain station on Broadway. I’ve drove past it a couple times, as it is so unassuming! But when I had read that they had a Happy Hour where drumsticks were $1 and ‘karaage’ was 50 cents, I had to make the trek.

Diana ordered the deep fried coconut milk – it was nicely breaded and bigger than we were expecting. It had a nice sweet taste to it, but that huge was a little overwhelming for one person to finish.
We weren’t sure what ‘karaage’ was, so I ended up ordering a dozen for myself and a friend to share – whoops! They are wings. Good price. We also ordered some $1 drumsticks.
It took a little bit of time for us to get our food – I think it’s because there was a large group before us, but we waited about 40 minutes for our chicken.
The chicken was nicely breaded and still very tender and juicy in the inside. The spices are more Chinese style with mostly Chinese Five Spice, which might not be everyone’s cup of tea. As you can tell from some of the photos, some of the chicken was overly spiced.
They also serve other items there, including fries. The fries were ok, but nothing special to write home about.
If you’re looking for cheap, greasy and diner type food – King Chicken is the cheapest place I’ve seen for fried chicken!
It’s worth mentioning that their Happy Hour times are 11am-3pm.
