The Othello Tunnels are located in Coquihalla Provincial Park in Hope, BC, which is about an hour and 45 minute drive from Vancouver. The tunnels were once used by trains but have been turned into a walkable path for visitors. The ‘hike’ is super easy, its on a flat surface of mostly gravel but also some paved parts and a couple bridges. The tunnels are stunning and so is the river running below them. If you were to walk from the beginning of the trail to the end of the tunnels, it shouldn’t take more than 25 minutes on a leisurely walk. There is a trail that continues onwards through to Kettle Valley Road and branches off on a more inclined trail leading back to the start.

I’d definitely recommend bringing a flashlight, or using the one on our phone for some parts of the tunnel, as it can get dark. Each tunnel isn’t that long, so it’s not like you’re in complete darkness for too long. You don’t need hiking boots for this trail, I was wearing toms and was completely fine. There are some parts in the tunnel that are wet on the walls or have formed a puddle, but nothing to really worry about on warm days.

The tunnels are closed from October-March, but it’s definitely a nice spot to visit in the summer time!
