Pearl Castle is a consistent bubble tea cafe. And by consistent, I mean the food, drinks and service are consistently good.
Today I ordered the General Tao Chicken -which I seem to like to get a lot when I come here. I don’t know whether it’s the tender chicken, the sauce or the spiciness that I enjoy, but whatever it is – yum!
The chicken comes with a side plate of stewed vegetables, today it was bok choy, bean sprouts and tofu. It also comes with rice and a dessert (a two-bite brownie today).
Here are some other items that were ordered:
Spicy chicken – Brian ordered this and I have to say this had more flavour than my dish, but then again, I’m a big fan of spiciness, so perhaps that would explain why I enjoyed this dish than my own.
Seafood Hot Pot. I love how they serve hot pot in bubble tea cafes, with the little fire lit underneath!
Curry chicken. I like the set up, with the crispy chicken set aside so it stays crispy.
Beancurd and Mushrooms.
Food:
Pearl Castle seems like the “McDonalds” of bubble tea cafes to me, it’s got mass appeal and the food and drinks are pretty standard. However, this time around, I didn’t find the food as tasty or as appetizing.
Ambiance:
The cafe is a bit squishy because it is always busy, but the set up is nice and clean.
Value:
I would think the value is average, most meals range from $7 and up, so it’s not a cheap deal neither is it an expensive place to eat.
Service:
We had to wave down the servers and I’d like to chalk it up to the fact that it was busy when we came, but there were about 2-3 of them standing around doing nothing.
