Ladies and gentlemen, we need to have some real talk here. I am obsessed with Portland cuisine. I can’t even begin to talk about the delicious morsels of Portland food without wanting to curl up in a ball and cry because I want someone to send me a Pine State Biscuit stat. [PS, I’d like to thank Ann from MePlusFood for this recommendation, be sure to check out her review!]

Pine State Biscuit is the mastermind of three guys who opened up shop at a local Farmers Market in 2006. Since it’s inception, the masses have been flocking to enjoy their old-style Southern treat.

While there are many different items to choose from from the good old biscuits and gravy, biscuit sandwiches and many other nods to Southern cooking – I stuck with the most popular item – the Reggie ($8).

This beauty is comprised of fried chicken, bacon and cheese topped with gravy. The fried chicken is perfection – crispy on the outside and perfectly tender and springy on the inside. The biscuits are large and capable of handling all the bacon and cheesy goodness that this dish commands. Finally, the gravy. The gravy is a white gravy flavoured with black pepper. You take one bite into this and you’ll be biting into deliciousness.

Brian ordered the Reggie Deluxe ($9) which is the same but with a fried egg.

Be warned that you’ll be waiting in a line to get your fill of biscuits, and also be waiting after you take your order. Brian and I went around 11am and total wait time (through line and waiting after we ordered) was about an hour. Seriously though, it’s a must try when you’re in Portland, so bite the bullet and give it a go!

Brian and I washed our biscuits down with lemonade (left) and sweet tea (right) – $2. We had our meal packed up to go because we were afraid we wouldn’t find any seating but while we were waiting a place by the prep area cleared out and we had a great view of where all the action took place.
