If you’re looking for home style cuisine in a space that’s been around longer than I have been (and that’s a long time) – look no further than to Prataman in Richmond. Here they serve a mix of Singaporean and Malaysian food including Mee Goreng, Hainanese chicken, roti, curry beef brisket and barbecue skewers for a modest price.
Prataman is well loved in the community and is always busy when you visit, proving that you don’t need a fancy, new restaurant to entertain your customers. That being said, probably not the best place to bring your first date to impress (or maybe it is? I don’t think I’d be terribly opposed to Prataman as a first date venue, but I’ll eat just about anywhere!).
We started off with the Mee Goreng – at it’s basic: sweet ketchup, tofu and noodles. It had a nice flavour, not too sweet and an ample portion.
The next dish is the Hainanese chicken – served bone in here, but very very tender. The rice is chicken flavoured and served with some soup to clean your palate. This dish is perfect for one person.
We ordered Roti as well to go with our curry beef brisket, its made in house and good for what it is.
The curry beef brisket is a good portion as well, the brisket is tender and has the delicious fat still attached to it. This is great with rice.
Our skewers are of beef and pork and they’re good – nothing to write home about but pretty standard for this type of cuisine.
