I’m definitely the type of person that orders in often – more so now that I am a mom with a baby that has various degrees of tolerance when it comes to noise. I feel very lucky that I live in an age where ordering in doesn’t always have to be pizza or Chinese food. With the slew of delivery services, I get my pick of many different restaurants.

I’ve had various experiences with different services and I’ve only started ordering from a few more, but I wanted to share my thoughts on each one and my own personal experience (ps, this is not an advertisement or sponsored post, but I do include my promo/referral code just in case you do want to use it).

Skip The Dishes

I started using Skip the Dishes at work, when I would order in advance and go to pick up my food. The app is pretty straight forward and my two favourite things about the app: you can place an order ahead of time (or tell them exactly when to deliver) and in the orders area, you can reorder – perfect if you’ve got a favourite that you keep coming back for. I also love that you can keep up with when your order is being made, picked up and on the way to you.

Delivery Fees:
Delivery fees are pretty average on Skip The Dishes ranging from $3.45-$5 (thats on top of a tip for your delivery person).

Variety:
The variety of restaurants is great – in my area anyway.

Parting Thoughts:
I’ve had a couple issues here and there with Skip The Dishes – but what I love about them is that they’re proactive about it. They’ll let you know right away if your order is taking longer and they’ve been kind enough to add some credit to my account if it takes a bit longer than expected. If you have any issues with your order, they rectify it pretty quickly – most of the time refunding whatever part of your order was incorrect or giving you credit.

DoorDash

I loved DoorDash when it first came out. Their app is easy to navigate – you can even sort by cuisines at the very top if you’d like. What I really wish they had was the option to schedule a delivery and also to re-order a previous order.

Delivery Fees:
Delivery fees on DoorDash are a bit more higher in price, ranging from $3.99-$6 (on top of a tip for your delivery person).

Variety:
The variety of restaurants is similar to Skip The Dishes.

Parting Thoughts:
I’ve had a love-hate relationship with DoorDash – especially as of recently, because of the lateness of a couple of my deliveries. There was once my app showed that it would take 4 hours (on top of the hour I waited) for my order to arrive…from a restaurant that was maybe 10-15 minutes away. I recently ordered and the delivery person called to ask me if I cancelled my order (which I did not) and it seemed like the restaurant cancelled the wrong order and then told me that I could not place my order…so basically, I waited an hour for news that my order was cancelled accidentally. There really was no follow up customer service-wise until I complained – in which they were originally going to give me DoorDash credits to order from another restaurant (but it was already 9pm and I was hungry!) but I asked them to give me a full refund instead. I don’t think I’ll be ordering from DoorDash any time soon.

JustEat – UPDATE – JustEat is no longer in operation.

JustEat is the OG of food delivery services and the one I’ve been using the longest. Their app is straight forward with no frills to it. I wish their app also had the ability to order ahead of time or decide when you can get your food delivered – also of course, a re-order function would be great too.

Delivery Fees:
Delivery Fees are pretty average, a bit on the lower side which is nice (on top of the tip for the delivery person).

Variety:
The variety of restaurants on JustEat are a bit on the ‘fast food’ side and some places you can actually place an order with at the restaurant and get it delivered for free.

Parting Thoughts:
I’ve never really had any issues with JustEat, they give you an approximation when your food gets delivered and it gets here relatively on time.

UberEats

UberEats is Vancouver’s foray into Uber (still waiting on that to happen…). Their app is great and easy to use and again, glad to have the option to schedule an order. I like that it’s easy to navigate with items at the bottom including a search function and orders. You can also request to meet at their vehicle, get it delivered to you with a specific suite/floor/business name.

Delivery Fees:
Right now, there is no delivery fee (I’m not sure if it’s a promo or if it’s just a thing). – UPDATE: There is a delivery fee based on how far you live from the restaurant, they have promotions for free delivery here and there.

Variety:
The variety of restaurants on UberEats balance from fast food picks to some of the local favourites you’ll find on other apps as well (this is based on my location).

Parting Thoughts:
I’ve never had any issues with UberEats and their tracking system is great (I’m guessing they use the same technology as they do with their Uber services). They’re the fastest when it comes to delivery.

Foodora

Foodora has been around for a little bit but only recently started delivering to my area. The app is clean an easy to use and you can order in advance. The only thing is that you have to be careful not to double (or triple!) order once you tap on a menu item, there’s a small pink number on the top right when you do so you can see how many orders you placed.

Delivery Fees:
The delivery fees are pretty standard with Foodora.

Variety:
I like the selection of restaurants on Foodora, their are a couple more local, interesting restaurants available on it. There are also a lot more healthier options.

Parting Thoughts:
I can’t say I’ve had any issues with Foodora at all!
