First up, the Carrot Cake Mini Cupcake. I cannot emphasize enough how I enjoy these pastries a lot more due to their small size, if they are any bigger, I think they would end up in the vast land of Starbucks’ infamous super sweet pastries. The carrot cupcake has a cream cheese icing which is not too sweet and definitely as chunky as their bigger Valentine’s day cupcakes (just thinking about them makes me gag). The cake itself is buttery, moist, soft and has a good balance of carrot and cinnamon flavouring. I think this would pair well with something spicy like a Chai Latte or with something milky like a Cappuccino. 3.5 FORKS.
Finally, the Peanut Butter Mini Cupcake. It is a very dense and heavily flavoured cupcake. The chocolate cake is moist and buttery but has very little sweetness to it. It’s probably because the peanut butter frosting is sweet and savoury enough to carry this little cupcake. I think there is too much icing on the cupcake, but that’s basically where the flavour is at. I do have to agree that this does taste a lot like Reese’s Peanut Butter cups – but more smoother. This is a very heavy pastry so I think it would pair well with something lighter like hot tea or iced black tea. 3.5 FORKS.
I definitely enjoyed the cupcakes the most out of all the new pastries, but the Rocky Road Cake Pop was pretty good as well. I can’t say I’m a big fan of Starbucks pastries but I do enjoy a little sweet after dinner and this may be the perfect bite-sized option. Most of these pastries run under $2, so they’re an affordable, satisfying treat.
