It’s no secret that I love sushi. I like trying new places out and this was no exception. Brian and I always past this area and see this little hole in the wall on Rupert and Broadway. To our surprise, when we walked in, it was packed. We sat at the bar and ordered promptly.

We started off with Appetizer Tempura (5 pcs – $4.25). We were given two prawn and some vegetable tempura. I liked that the batter wasn’t so thick that you can actually enjoy the vegetable and the prawn. The vegetables are still crunchy, so it was a good start to our meal.

Our next dish was Tuna & Salmon Sashimi (8 pcs – $9.95). Both were quite good. The salmon was buttery and moderately sliced and the tuna tasted fresh and cool.

Brian ordered a negitoro roll ($2.75), the tuna was good, not too fishy and the green onion still had bite.

We then ordered three Special rolls: Sushiholic Roll, Awesome Roll and the Volcano Roll.

The Sushiholic Roll ($7.95) has prawn tempura, avocado, cucumber, crab meat, spicy tuna, smoked salmon and crispy bits on top. It was a great roll that combined a good crunch and delicious sauce on the bottom.

The Awesome Roll ($7.95) is crab meat, avocado, cucumber, masago, baked salmon and yam slivers on top. A very interesting combination, the yam slivers on the top were super crunchy and slightly sweet. It was a good addition to the roll.

Finally, the Volcano Roll ($14.95) was the best roll of the evening. It’s a deep fried roll with asparagus, spicy tuna, cream cheese, avocado, cucumber served with spicy tuna sashimi in the middle. It might possibly be the Filipino in me, but these deep fried rolls were heaven. The roll is lightly breaded and served in an array of different tasting sauces. Definitely pick up some of these sauces when you order this roll, as it adds to the taste of the dish. I like how spicy tuna is the ‘lava’ in this dish.
