Taste of Yaletown is back for it’s 13th season – this year there are 26 restaurants participating. As always, the Taste of Yaletown is a set menu experience that range from $25, $35 and $45 for a three course meal.
The two week event goes on from Oct 11 to 27 – be sure to make your reservations early, otherwise you might be disappointed!
I had a quick peek at the menus online and thought I’d put together a list of recommendations – some are solid, some are new. These recommendations are based on my own previous experience, the uniqueness of the menus and pricing.
*$14
DD Mau
While they tend to fly under the radar during ToY, their Singaporean Chili Soft Shell Crab Banh Mi definitely caught my eye.
$25
Cactus Club Cafe
Cactus is Vancouver’s most iconic restaurants, simply for it’s staying power and solid dishes that showcase local flavours. They are also one of the few restaurants on the list that stay true to their own menu and some seasonal twists.
$35
Flying Pig
One of my favourite restaurants in the city, the price point at Flying Pig is pretty fair and includes humboldt squid and steak as an entree – not bad.
$45
The Keg
A staple in the Vancouver scene, The Keg always serves up legitimate steak at a great price point. At $45, a 3 course menu that includes prime rib or steak and their fantastic Billy Miner Pie has got my stamp of approval.
La Pentola
If you’re a pasta lover, you’ll want to check out La Pentola. Not only is their dining room cozy and romantic, but their food is just as fabulous. They serve a 4-course menu, a rarity on the Taste of Yaletown circuit.
House Special
If you want something different than the ordinary, House Special serves up interesting twists to traditional Vietnamese fare. They also serve a 4-course menu!
Fayuca
Fayuca offers interesting Mexican-Canadian inspired dishes that you’re not going to find anywhere else in the city.
Banter Room
Casual setting and comfortable seating is just what the doctor ordered in Yaletown! Their southern fried chicken sounds divine.
