I love tea. I find it less bitter and provides more good for your body than coffee. I’m always on the lookout for wonderful tea places that have interesting blends of tea leaves and an interesting background. So far, these places have never steered me wrong, so do try them out!
1) Granville Island Tea Company – situated in the busy Granville Island market, they have a huge selection of teas from black, rooibos, organic, oolong, white and green – there is always something for someone here. My favourite? Cherry Rose Sencha. I haven’t tried it yet, but I also hear the Chai tea is the best in town.
2) David’s Tea – Newly opened in Oakridge mall and another shop located on West 4th, David’s Tea has by far the best varietal tea. From tea that tastes like chocolate – Read My Lips, to a different take on Earl Grey (Cream of Earl Grey) to Baked Apple (yum!). You can try more flavours by bringing home a 20g bag for less than $4.
3) The Secret Garden – nestled in trendy Kerrisdale, it is the perfect place to enjoy a traditional high tea session, complete with antique china and marvellous teapots. I am a big fan of their fruit and herbal teas including Blue Angel (caramel, apples, hibiscus and cornflower petals) and Lemon Mango Punch (lemon, mango, orange, apple, hibiscus and rosehip).
4) Leisure Tea & Coffee – a small corner on Alexandra Road in Richmond, you just might miss it. Guest blogger, Liane took me here. They have an old pub feel that makes you feel like you’ve gone back in time while they serve desserts, small meals and different types of tea, coffee and bubble tea.
5) Murchie’s Tea – the one I frequent is in Oakridge mall, although I’m sure they have other places around Vancouver. What I love about Murchie’s is the different tea blends associated with very interesting names. York House, CBC Radio, Prince Charles and Royal Roads University Tea to name a few. My favourite teas here: Mango and Genmaicha.
