This beautiful, well appointed hotel boasts personable amenities and is a central hub, since it’s located right in the Vancouver Airport terminal. I was told that the hotel itself is 90 steps from the US checkout area – that is central. I call it central as well because it’s a quick walk to the Canadaline that leads you straight to downtown and connects you to other transit that will take you elsewhere.
Each room is well kept and the bed is so comfortable – every time I sat in the bed I just felt like going to sleep. The room has a central control panel that lets you control the temperature, lights and curtains.
There are several special components of the hotel including a “Day Use & Quiet Zone” which is perfect for people who are waiting for connecting flights to get some serious shut eye. You can reserve a Day Use room for 4,6 and 8 hours – these rooms are available between 8am-8pm.
Described as a ‘boutique hotel experience’, the Fairmont Airport also offers Fairmont Gold which is the top tier one can get staying at the Fairmont. With your own private check in/out on the 14th floor and your room thoughtfully prepared for you, it is definitely a paramount in service. I was delighted with our turn down service, they had left a bottle of water and a glass at our bed side and also an ice bucket filled with ice since we had some food and drinks on the table.
The Fairmont Gold also offers complimentary deluxe continental breakfast buffet, complimentary hot and cold canapes during the evening, complimentary apres dinner dessert bar and an honour bar that’s stocked with liquor but also complimentary mineral water, soft drinks, coffee, espresso in the Fairmont Gold Lounge.
Another great attraction on the Fairmont Gold level is definitely the view. Not only do you get the entire Northshore Mountains in view, you get to watch planes land right in front of you! It’s mesmerizing and I spent some time watching them land and the coming and going of airside operations. Another concern that travellers have staying at a hotel near the airport is the noise – I found there was little to no noise even right below many airplanes. From what I’ve heard, the windows are triple paned to reduce the sound.
The Fairmont Vancouver Airport has a spa, fitness studio and pool/hot tub area. If you’re feeling more adventurous, they offer bird watching tours and have complimentary BMW bikes you can take out into the trails nearby.
