At $45, The Vancouver Fish Company Restaurant and Bar is participating in Dine Out Vancouver this year. Their dinner menu features a lot of seafood (as expected with the name Vancouver Fish company!). I was invited preview the menu.

The APPETIZERS:

VFC Seafood Chowder – The chowder is full of seafood and clams, bacon in a thyme cream. I find the chowder a bit saltier than most places, but its to be expected with the addition of bacon and other briny seafood.

VFC Maple Walnut Prawns – An homage to the Chinese dish, these feature tempura prawns tossed in Yuzu mayo, walnuts, toasted sesame and togarashi. The dish had a nice slight kick to it and crunchy texture throughout.

Organic Beet Salad – created with Klipper’s Farm organic beets, toasted pistachios, baby arugula, avocado rosemary vinaigrette and shaved parmesan.

The ENTREES:

Poached Atlantic Lobster – served with a whole Nova Scotia lobster, Klipper’s Farm organic vegetables, garlic roasted potatoes, drawn butter.

Seafood Hot Pot – An interesting take on Hot Pot, this one features Dungeness crab, pink scallops, prawns, mussels, clams, baby Yukon Gold potatoes, corn, saffron fennel nage, garlic toast. This tastes a bit more like cioppino broth, being a bit more tomato-y than most hot pot broths you would find.

Surf & Turf – 6 oz Alberta Striploin, scallop & prawn skewer, confit garlic whipped potatoes, roasted acorn squash, Klipper’s Farm organic vegetable medley, celeriac puree, red wine jus.

The DESSERTS

New York Cheesecake – served as a traditional cheesecake with strawberry compote and chantilly cream.

Apple Tarte Tatin – This French inspired dish is made with caramel ,Granny Smith apples and served with vanilla gelato.

Overall, the food is an interesting but confusing mix of different cuisines. The seafood is worth the $45 price point, if you really enjoy seafood.
