Here are my Top 5 Things to Do in Richmond which is fairly applicable any season, except for the recently open night markets!
1) EAT.
Richmond has the best Chinese eats, some say it rivals Hong Kong itself! Particularly, I recommend having dim sum in Richmond. Most places have transitioned to ordering and delivering straight to your table but some places, like Continental still use the old push cart method.
2) Visit the Buddhist Temple.
There are a couple temples and monasteries to visit, so be sure to check out all of them if you have time!
3) Fisherman’s Wharf in Steveston.
One of our many beautiful and scenic attractions is Steveston. One of my favourite places to visit for fresh seafood is the Fisherman’s Wharf. You’ll find the latest catch that you can purchase right off the fisherman’s boat! You’ll find staples like salmon, ling cod and shrimp but also some delicacies including sea urchin and right now, spot prawns which are back in season. You can also chat with the fishermen, who are more than happy to discuss their catch with you and give you some recommendations on how to clean your fish and prepare it!
4) Iona Jetty.
I think this is my most favourite beach to visit in BC – while it isn’t so much a ‘beach’, the jetty sticks out far into the ocean. While you traverse the jetty, there are planes landing overhead, so it’s such a great spectacle!
5) Richmond Night Markets.
There are a couple in Richmond, but all of them have great eats and vendors you should check out. There is a range of delicious food from German bratwurst to Taiwanese stinky tofu – you won’t go home hungry! There are also other cool stalls including stationary, socks, hats and fun toys for kids. In the summertime, I’d suggest bringing bug spray as the markets are close to the water and if you’re anything like me will attract mosquitoes!
