It’s been a hot minute since TWG opened it’s doors here in Vancouver and I’ve been meaning to go back and check out their high tea and breakfast and lunch counterpart. TWG originated in Singapore in the year 1837. The bustling port city was a trading post for teas, spices and other epicurean delights. When you step into a TWG shop, decadence is what first comes to mind. The warm dark coloured wood contrasts with the large, golden tea tins that line the wall. Every part of TWG is meticulously crafted/decorated.
We went to celebrate Nathalie (my sister)’s birthday. Ever since we went to the media event, she and I had vowed to come back and experience it first hand. The dining salon is a white tablecloth affair with comfortable, black velvety wicker-style chairs.
For breakfast, you can either order a set menu or eggs a la carte. The set menu comes in 3 tiers: Classic (which is a croissant or muffins/scones for $24), Gourmand (a choice of an egg dish and a patisserie item from the trolley for $38) and the Signature (choice of a croissant or muffins/scones, a choice of an egg dish and 3 macarons for $45). We decided to go with the Signature menu to get the full experience of the Breakfast Set Menu.
Along with your set menu is your choice of tea and if you are anything like me, I had to pour into the mini-novel length tea selection they had to decide what I wanted. There are so many teas here, so many that I’m curious to try – but they’ll all have to wait! I settled with the Geisha Blossom Tea created with a nice blend of green tea and ripe, sweet fruit. This tea was so fragrant and delicious, I’m obsessed!
Nathalie ordered Margaret’s Hope (her favourite tea) – a black tea hailing from India, the Himalayas and Nepal. This tea is created from the first flush from southern Darjeeling and has a wonderfully smooth flavour with a hint of hazelnut and almonds.
You are also treated to freshly squeezed juice – our options that day were the Orange and Apple. I went with orange. I’m not sure where they pick their oranges, but by far the most delicious, not too sweet but perfectly ripe orange juice I’ve ever tasted. It almost makes me want to have a juicer at home.
For the eggs, I ordered the Singapura – soft cooked eggs served atop of the most fragrant, beautiful forest mushrooms that are slightly glazed with soy. To top this off, it’s served with a beautiful French toast infused with truffle, garlic and one of their teas Okayti Prestige. The fragrance alone made my mouth water and every bite of these eggs combined with the forest mushrooms were like heaven. I’d recommend cutting some of your toast, soaking the egg and topping it with mushroom – it’s the best way to enjoy this entire dish. I absolutely loved this dish and I would definitely come back for it.
Nathalie ordered the Primeur, a scramble with Genmaicha leaves, smoked salmon, roasted Portobello, green asparagus in chicken jus and a toasted brioche.
Josh, my sister’s husband ordered the Eggs Benedict. It’s created with artisanal English muffins, two poached farmhouse eggs slathered in porcini hollandaise, turkey ham and some mesclun greens tossed in a 1837 Black Tea infused vinaigrette.
Along with the eggs, you receive a three tier set that holds your choice of muffins, scones or croissants (I chose scones) and three macarons of your choosing. The bottom tier has delicious marmalade and whipped cream.
I was incredibly impressed by the delicious flavour of the whipped cream on my scone that I may never be able to have a scone with just plain butter from now on. I loved that TWG put the smallest of details into many parts of the Breakfast menu including a small, branded silver cloche that covered up the whipped cream and the golden husk clamped on every teapot. You definitely get a wonderful experience here.

The service is fantastic, our server was highly knowledgeable in all the teas and answered all our questions about certain teas and the menu. Our hostess also came by to check on us and chatted with us briefly. They were all very polite and hospitable.
They kindly brought over a small cake for us to share for Nathalie’s birthday – we were delighted and thankful for their hospitality!
Overall, we really had a wonderful time and we’re curious to come in and try their lunch menu, along with the high tea offering. I spoke with the hostess and asked her if they had any plans for extending their dining hours into dinner and she said it was only a matter of time – I would definitely look forward to trying that out as well. I enjoyed my meal and I appreciate the fact they incorporated a lot of their teas into the dishes complimenting the flavours of each dish without overpowering them.
Price wise, I feel that the breakfast set is pretty fair, their high tea option is also at a reasonable price point as well.
At TWG, you’re able to order Tea Cocktails and Mocktails, wine, ice cream and sorbets as well. They have an assortment of desserts and macarons, of which you can order and take to go without having to sit down in the dining area.
If you’re looking for a great place in the city for high tea or breakfast, I’d highly recommend checking out TWG, they are easily one of my favourite places in the city!
For a limited time, TWG Tea is celebrating Canada’s 150th with their Jubilee Tea (pictured above) that has notes of maple syrup and a nice, tart aftertaste of cranberry.

During the summer, TWG also offers their Iced Tea Bag collection – perfect for iced tea cocktails or just for a nice flavourful drink!
