Lucy brought us to Panchilas Pupuseria, where their pupusas are $3 each. Since we were doing an entire food tour that day, I tried only one – the Mushrooms & Garlic. Pupusas like I had mentioned earlier are corn tortillas – but they are filled with toppings in the inside. While the more traditional ones range from pork, chicken, loroco and beans – I decided to go with the vegetarian option.
It’s great to see places like this thriving – it makes me crave great dishes back at home. They serve your pupusa with an assortment of sauces (including a very tempting looking hot sauce that I didn’t want to burn my face off to too early in the food tour game). Their pupusas are also served with curtido, a lightly fermented cabbage relish. Think of it as almost coleslaw.
